Public sector groups boost Go ON Gold in age of digital government

Trafford Council and Socitm – the membership association for all IT professionals working in local authorities – have become the first two public sector organisations to join Go ON Gold. In an age of digital government, and where the government has pledged to make as many of its services as possible “digital by default”, it is vital that online public services are designed to be as accessible as possible to all users.
Trafford Executive Councillor Alex Williams said: “The council is delighted and excited to be working with Go ON Gold and is relishing the opportunity to be a campaign ambassador.
“We are confident that we can continue inspiring both staff and residents to become digital champions. With the right support in place, virtually anyone with any disability should be able to access council services online.”
Socitm Managing Director Adrian Hancock said: “The Go ON Gold initiative has real potential to reduce the division between digital ‘haves’ and ‘have-nots’. We hope that other local authorities will join Trafford in encouraging their employees to get involved and help make ‘digital by default’ a reality.”
